Short Synopsis

Ella lives in present times and has recently moved into a unique apartment that connects to the past.

My Thoughts

Hot dog, this is an amazing series! I read the third book some time ago. I loved it and wanted to read the first two books, but my library didn’t have them. I ended up ordering them through interlibrary loan and zipped through them. They were well worth the wait.Β

Gin is my favorite character. She survived a rotten childhood in Maryland, then left on her own for Manhatten hoping to live a better life. She is a fiery redhead who speaks her mind and protects those close to her while still feeling deeply. She has the strength and wit to survive and thrive in this new world. Her thoughts and way of speaking make her one in a million.

Ella irritates me a bit. Some of her choices were a bit off and I think that is why she bothered me. She was thrown into a rotten situation which lands her in the Greenwich Village apartment building that used to be a speakeasy in the 20s. Strange things happen in this particular building and Ella is on the hunt to find out why she has a connection to it. Her husband, who she is separated from, is even more irritating. He is a real wienie, stuck on himself like you wouldn’t believe. A real jackrabbit if you will.Β

Gin’s life was so interesting to me. I like learning about the 20s and this story included some of the unsavory aspects like bootlegging and speakeasies. Prohibition enforcement put her between a rock and a hard place when she meets Oliver Anson. Being the step-daughter of one of the biggest bootleggers in Appalachia, Oliver talks her into helping catch him. Duke Kelly is a dangerous man, which puts them both in harm’s way.Β

He is another character I couldn’t stand. He is scary and extremely dangerous as his hands stretch far and wide.Β

Beatriz Williams invented the most interesting character with Gin. I was enamored with her story. The way Beatriz wrapped the two time periods together, connecting them to each other is nothing short of fabulous. The detail was what drew me in. All of the little connections and secrets that came out as the story progressed made me continually want more.

If you haven’t started this series yet, do it! It is hard to describe The Wicked series, but you will know what I mean when you read it.Β
