This is the third book in the Detective Margaret Nolan series, which I didn’t realize until I wrote this review. It can be read as a standalone, though I now wonder what I could’ve known about Detective Nolan had I read the first two books.
The plot in The Devil You Know zings around quite a bit throughout the story. I had a hard time getting into it. Numerous characters also popped up, and I wasn’t in love with any of them. They all had severe flaws of one kind or another.
The author’s writing is filled with descriptive words. At times they seem like a bit much, and at others, the language works well. I wouldn’t expect to see such charm in this type of book. You will know what I’m talking about as soon as you read the first page.
I have to wonder if I would’ve enjoyed this more if I would’ve read the first two stories. I struggled to get into the story. There are many different parts to it and characters to keep track of.
