💜I read this as a buddy read. I loved the constant chatting as we read the book. Such a fun group of people!

Right off the bat, we learn that the previous sheriff framed someone for murder. This someone was shot and killed because of the murders he committed being dubbed The Butcher. The reader also knows that The Butcher is actually the sheriff himself.

The story focuses on The Butcher and his grown grandson who he raised after his daughter died. The grandson is becoming well-known in the restaurant world and doesn’t want anything to ruin that for him.

The grandson has a girlfriend of three years who he often ignores. She is investigating The Butcher and talks to the grandfather, who likes being called The Chief, to bounce ideas off of.

All of these people get sucked into The Butcher’s world which is good for no one.

Knowing about The Butcher from the get-go made the story extra thrilling. So many questions popped into my head and had my head spinning. I couldn’t read fast enough to see where this story would take me.

Most of the characters in this book were unlikable, self-centered, or gullible. The Butcher is a disgusting, despicable pig of a man. His grandson is hard-working, but self-centered and an ass. His girlfriend let him walk all over her and didn’t pick up on things that were right in front of her face.

Jason is the only one I liked, and he wasn’t a main character. He is a friend of the son and girlfriend who pops in and out throughout the story.

The story is gruesome, as you can guess by the name. It does have several icky parts, but no hard-core details. There are some things in it that could trigger some, such as suicide and rape.

I was more riveted by the beginning and end of the story. The middle wasn’t quite as exciting but still good. I’ll admit there are parts that seemed rather ridiculous, but it is still an exciting read. It is fiction after all! This is my first read by this author, but it won’t be my last.
