In A Doll for Me, Molly is invited to a friend’s birthday party. She has to bring a doll with her, but none of her dolls look like her. Mom & her go shopping and can’t find one. Molly takes it upon herself to make one, and it is a hit with her friends.
This is a beautiful story. It reinforces the importance of recognizing multicultural differences and the awareness that everyone needs to see themselves as well as others in the world around them.
I love how Molly makes her own doll to take to the party instead of taking her mom’s suggestion to take one she already had. Although there should have already been dolls that looked like her, she took the situation into her own hands and solved her problem.
A Doll for Me has an important message, but it is also well-written with charming illustrations. Definitely grab this one to share with the little ones in your life.
