A Box Full of Love
The illustrations in A Box Full of Love are adorable, full of perfectly blended warm colors and lovely scenes and characters. They draw the eye to them immediately, putting a big ole smile on your face!
The story tells about a young bear named Max, who had a box of chocolates for his mom for Valentine’s Day. He decides to have one and ends up chowing down all of the chocolates. Daddy Bear helps him with his problem by telling him the box is still full of love; they make some cookies to add to the box. Max sees another empty box of chocolates on the kitchen counter and realizes he isn’t the only one in the house who likes chocolates!
A Box of Love is a simple story for young children, I’d say up until around seven years old. I like the story’s premise that the box is still full of love, but I thought it should have addressed the issue; Max ate all of the chocolate he was supposed to give his mother. Unfortunately, it skipped right over that and made it a nonproblem. I would have liked to see that Max and Dad felt a bit more regretful; therefore, they made cookies for mom together while discussing their error.
If you want to read a short Valentine’s story to your little one, this could be the book for you. I enjoyed the story and the illustrations. If I were reading this to a child, I’d just discuss the issue as I read the book. It is a cute story overall!
