Meet Latisha

I recently retired from teaching and have decided to try a few new things, blogging being one of them.  I will be writing about everyday life.  My friends have always teased me because I like to be home.  That is just the way I am.  I can enjoy being home and still have a life.  Therefore, I decided to write about my low-key life!

I was an elementary teacher for over twenty-five years. I taught 4th grade for the majority of those years.  I love that age.  They are still kids but are able to do a little more.  I taught 6th grade for one year.  I found out quickly that wasn’t my cup of tea!  I also taught a split class for two years.  I had a 2nd/3rd grade split and a 3rd/4th grade split.   If I get brave, I may discuss educational issues eventually. I am sick and tired of teachers being attacked when it is typically the educational system that is the problem.

I have been married for twenty-six years and have two sons.  Both boys are adults now, living their own lives.  I am not quite an empty nester as my youngest still lives at home, but he works long hours so my nest is empty most of the time.

One of my favorite things to do is read.  I read several books weekly, mainly fiction. The library was a second home to me as a child.  I was that kid that checked out a stack of books every time I was there.  I am kind of addicted to Kindles and have more than one at the moment.  I am cheap, so I mainly find free books or check out books online from the library.  Needless to say I have hundreds of books on my Kindle.  I also have many shelves and tubs of books around my house.  I continue to find more at thrift shops and can’t resist. Book reviews will be a major part of my blog.

I am an amateur photographer.  Amateur being the key word.  I take pictures of nature more than anything else: barns, flowers, trees, fall colors, bugs, etc.   I enjoy it but have so much to learn.  I take pictures of nature more than anything else.  I will share some of my photos as I learn.

I am and have always been a pet lover. I have had many pets over the years & can’t imagine living life without them.  I volunteered at our local humane society for over ten years and was on the board for most of those years.

Music is a major part of my life.  Although I am almost 50, I rock hard.  I love my bands and going to concerts is one of my favorite things to do.  When people find out, they are rather shocked and say they would have never guessed that about me.   As you can imagine, most people in my life don’t care for hard rock.  What?  Yep, that seems to be the case.  Do not fret though!  I have a teacher friend who is my concert sista and we have a ball.   It is perfect stress relief!

I plan on blogging about all of these topics and possibly more as I get a feel for the blogging world.  I hope you join me on this journey.

UPDATE:  I now read ARCs & provide reviews, am a beta reader for Augustine Pierce, and proofread for authors Sherry A. Burton and Eden Wolfe.
